Lodge pole has a serotinous cone that only opens in extreme heat.

-It needs to experience a fire in order to hatch new seedlings.


--Soil uses fire char to replenish it’s nutrients.


-Greenhouse gases from fire and decomposition trapped heat in the atmosphere, at the

beginning of time, and warmed the world up to a point that it would sustain human life.


-After a study of hundred of forest fires in the northwest, James Agee at the University of Washington, ascertain that 68 percent of all forest fires are started by lightening during thunderstorms.
